Bengaluru (Bangalore) after almost 5 years since my last visit and my oh my what a change Bangalore had for me.. I visited my old favourite restaurants which i used to go to when i was studying in Bangalore 9 years ago!! But i discovered some new favourites and it was a pleasant journey!!
few restaurants which i visited and the ones worth mentioning...
- Samarkhand
- Toscano
- karavelli
- Empire
- Bheemas
- Shiro
- Sahid sindh sultan - railway restaurant
- Hard Rock Cafe
- Corner house ice cream
- Lakeview ice cream
- Coffee day
- ITC coffee shop
- Leela Palace
I must say I was just exploring Bangalore and its food for the 2 weeks i was there and few of my favourite places were clearly Samarkhand, karavelli, Toscano and Sahid Sindh Sultan ( The restaurant which looks like a train)
The Gastronomic adventure in Bangalore was amazing as I flavoured different types of Indian food from different regions.. few different flavoured restaurants such as Samarkhand was known for its Afghan food which had very good tandoori items and its lamb leg just melts in your mouth. We ate there thrice as the restaurant was just next to our hotel and the food was a true Afghan experience..
Karavelli was a pleasant surprise with its links to Kerala and Goa and the food tastes like Sri Lankan food filled with rich coconut milk in their cooking. The Pork Sorpotel was truely a Goan dish with its sweet and sour flavour in its diced up pork pieces which went very well with the special kerala prawn biriyani and meen polichathu a black pomfret which is rich in flavour and tandoor and wrapped in Banana leaf.
A break from Indian food was when i visited UB City, Owned by Dr.Vijaya Mallaya - The famous kingfisher owner!! I was lucky enough to cross paths with him in 2005 at the FTV Bar in Bangalore and with his son Sidhartha Mallaya this time when the IPL matches were on and at the ITC Gardenia hotel when i went for a late night coffee and he just walked passed me and i was clueless as who this guy was and why everyone around me was getting excited!!
This mall filled with all International Brands and restaurants took me back to the days i used to live in KL. oh how happy i was to see a mall which reminded me of Pavillion in Malaysia. And Toscano was the Best Italian I've had in Bangalore and the dessert which was Khalua chocolate mousse was fluffy and light and very tasty, it was too good that i forgot to take a picture of it too... Shiro is also a Korean,Thai and Japanese specialized restaurant in UB City which has unlimited sushi and shashimi buffet which is a treat!!
Sahid Sindh Sultan was the name of the first railway train in Indian and this is the theme of this restaurant which had a train cabin as its restaurant and we were served by station masters!! The Tandoori prawns and the fried lamb was well flavoured and i found it better than Samarkhand prawns which was a similar dish. However these 2 restaurants belongs to the same group of companies which is clearly the reason for its best quality and uniqueness.
Empire group of Restaurants is a cheap and affordable place to go have a non veg thali for lunch or a lamb raan ( leg) for an affordable price and for the busy shoppers who values every minute of their shopping spree as this chain of restaurants are considered a fast food chain!
Hard Rock Cafe is a good place for some entertainment where the waiters and barmen get on a stage and perform for their customers!! a pleasant surprise and good treat for the ladies ;)
Home made ice cream is best in Bangalore with Lakeview and Corner House been popular choices amongst the locals and the hot chocolate fudge been a favourite!!
I could go on and on about all the places i have visited and the flavours i have experienced but then this post would never end.. So I would just say Bangalore or Bengaluru is a Gastronomic adventure you should not miss if you ever visit India!!!
